A Custom, Atmosphere-Driven Interior Transformation in Coopersburg, PA

Project Overview

Location : Coopersburg, PA

Project Type : Custom Study Interior Renovation

Timeline : 2 Months

Budget : $60,000

The home began as a spec build with a living room that felt generic and uninspired. Rather than a surface-level refresh, the homeowner envisioned a complete transformation—one that would convert the space into a moody, richly layered study designed for relaxation, music, and meaningful connection.

This project focused on depth, texture, and craftsmanship to create a destination room that feels intentional, personal, and timeless.

The Challenge

The existing living room lacked character and architectural detail:

Generic finishes typical of a spec home

No defined focal point or built-in functionality

Flat lighting that failed to create atmosphere

Limited sense of intimacy or purpose

The challenge was to fully reimagine the room—not just decorate it—by introducing architectural elements, layered materials, and lighting that would completely shift the experience of the space.

Our Solution

We anchored the room with custom built-in cabinetry, painted in Benjamin Moore Rainy Afternoon 1575, establishing a deep, atmospheric foundation. Brookline pulls by Top Knobs in Honey Bronze add warmth and subtle contrast against the millwork.

Above, a red oak coffered ceiling with cove crown detailing introduces architectural depth and craftsmanship, drawing the eye upward and giving the space a sense of permanence and intention.

The walls are wrapped in Windward Sisal grasscloth wallpaper in Midnight by Thibaut, adding texture and softness that balances the darker palette without feeling heavy. Hinkley Greta sconces in Heritage Brass provide warm, layered lighting that enhances the room’s intimate character, particularly in the evening hours.

Underfoot, a Nourison Lynx Light Blue carpet grounds the space with comfort and a hint of contrast. Custom furnishings elevate both form and function:

A Whittemore Sherrill sofa (L3153-3) upholstered in Bark leather with brown mahogany legs anchors the seating area

A Sherrill 1315 chair in Darling Charcoal fabric with matching brown mahogany legs provides visual balance and continuity

Stout Fabrics Misplace 1 Wheat window treatments soften natural light and complete the tailored aesthetic

The Transformation

This renovation transformed a standard spec-home living room into a dramatic yet inviting study. Rich finishes, layered textures, and architectural detailing work together to create a space that feels intimate, grounded, and deeply personal.

Designed for unwinding with a glass of wine, playing piano or guitar, and settling into thoughtful, unhurried conversation, this study is a true destination room—meant to be experienced, not simply seen.
